A non-profit membership organization and multidisciplinary research institute of the University of Calgary, AINA's mandate is to advance the study of the North American and circumpolar Arctic through the natural and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities, and to acquire, preserve, and disseminate information on physical, environmental, and
social conditions in the North. Created as a bi-national corporation in 1945, the Institute's United States Corporation is housed at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The InfoNorth essay, entitled "Northern Exposure, Promoting Arctic Science News to the Canadian Public," was written by AINA's Director of Communications, Ruth Klinkhammer. Starting with the March 2009 issue, the news items and conference listings will no longer appear in the print journal. In addition to writing about the promotion of northern science news, Ruth has been working hard on revising and expanding the AINA website over the past few months. The AINA home page now includes up-to-date news briefs, stories about current research in the Arctic, and information on northern-related events occurring in the Calgary region and elsewhere, as well as quick links to various aspects of the Arctic Institute's activities, such as the back issues of the journal Arctic and the Arctic Science and Technology Information System database. By moving the news items and conference listing to the website, journal staff can update the information much more frequently and effectively.
