Founding partners of EALÀT Institute; Association of World Reindeer Herders( WRH), Sámi University College (SUC) and Intemational Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR) signed Memorandum of Understanding, Founding Principles and Terms of Reference on Kautokeino, November 5, 2010.

Purpose of the UArctic EALÀT Institute
The Institute aims at a continued contribution to a holistic strengthening of knowledge development, research, education, monitoring, information and outreach for circumpolar reindeer husbandry. The Institute shall have a circumpolar focus, and work for the benefit of circumpolar reindeer herders. The Institute shall be a tool for recruiting indigenous youth to scientific work.
The Institute shall contribute to building competence locally in reindeer herders' societies, through mobilizing the different partners, in the form of developing and implementing:
- research on themes important for reindeer husbandry
- recruitment of indigenous students, their training and education
- community-based workshops, seminars and conferences in circumpolar reindeer herding areas
- outreach of the total activities of the Institute, including research results.
The activities of Institute will be based on the values of the partners and the declarations of the World Reindeer Herders' Congresses.
