More than 80 guests from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Northern, Siberian and Far-Eastern regions took part in the Conference. Representatives of scientific and educational institutions, NGO, public authorities from Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District, Yamalo-Nenents Autonomous District,Taimyr (Dolgano-Nenets) Municipal Area of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Sakhalin Region, Altai Republic, Komi Republic, Karelia republic,Sakha Republic, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Kemerov Regions, Khabarovsk Territory, also foreign participants from Denmark, Finland and Norway presented their researches and ideas.
Break-out sections “Social-economical and ethno-cultural development of Indigenous Minorities of North, Siberia and Far East on the modern stage” and “Preservation and development of traditional culture and languages of Indigenous Minorities of North, Siberia and Far East” included the following issues: education, adaptation of Northern Peoples to natural environment changes, social and anthropogenic transformations in the North, social- demographic aspects of sustainable development of Northern Peoples, traditional nature resources management in modern social- economical conditions, main directions of state policy towards Indigenous Northern Minorities, role of regional NGO's in ethno-social development of northern ethnos, issues and achievements of national schools in the context of educational system modernization, youth policy in the North, development issues of legislative and normative bases of Indigenous Minorities sustainable development securing.
As a result participants of the Conference came to conclusion that the Institute of the Northern Peoples must be considered as the coordinating research and educational center of Northern Studies in the Russian Federation and made a proposal to organize such events (conferences,workshops, forums etc) annually to preserve and research traditional culture of Indigenous Minorities of North, Siberia and Far East of the Russian Federation on the base of Institute of the Northern Peoples of the Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University.
