The College
YC has over 1,000 students enrolled in credit programming,3,500 Continuing Education enrollments and over 40 programs including Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, diplomas, certificates, university transfer programs and an increasing range of Continuing Education programs. These are offered through three academic divisions and seven schools in both face to face instruction and distance delivery. Yukon College supports two campuses in Whitehorse and 12 in Yukon’s remote communities, and works closely with the 14 Yukon First Nations, 11 of which are self-governing.
Over the past five years YC’s student population, breadth and depth of programming, facilities, technological capabilities and influence within the territory have all increased. Significant achievements include the opening of the Yukon Research Centre of Excellence, the launch of the Northern Institute of Social Justice, the introduction of a centralized marketing and recruitment department and the revisions to the College Act, which provide YC with degree granting powers. The College continues to introduce new programs such as the Multimedia Certificate program; the Heritage and Culture Certificate program, available in every Yukon community; and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Conservation Sciences in partnership with the University of Alberta.
The Position
The successful candidate will possess a post-graduate degree, extensive senior management experience and cultural awareness, and will be technologically adept. The President will work with the Board to provide vision and guidance to the organization, while working to build upon recent growth and developments.
Responsibilities include:
• Working collaboratively with all governments, as well as business and industry, to meet existing and emerging education and training needs in the territory;
• Creating and supporting positive connections with students, faculty and staff;
• Building a strong relationship between research and teaching;
• Increasing the number of relevant and accessible programs;
• Developing and expanding trades and industry training;
• Leading and inspiring an effective management team;
• Working effectively together with all Yukon First Nations;
• Managing the financial affairs of the College and finding new opportunities for revenue generation;
• Increasing meaningful global opportunities and partnerships.
