The center will make fundamental
research in the areas of nanotechnologies, chemistry, physics, ecology,
pharmacology. “Moreover, the university’s scientists will make
geochemical studies of the processes in the Arctic region to prospect
for mineral resources,” the press service said. “The university
specialists will work on methods and means of environmental monitoring
of Russia’s Arctic territories.”
The center will also offer its services
to other research organizations, businesses, state and public
organizations. There will be no need for them to send samples to Moscow
or St. Petersburg. Any laboratory tests may be made at the center, which
will considerably reduce their cost and time, the press service noted.

A center for Arctic research opened on Saturday at the Northern (Arctic)
Federal University in the Russian northern city of Akhangelsk. About 400 million rubles were spent to buy equipment
manufactured by the leading global makers, the university’s press center
said.
