UAA’s Arctic Engineering Masters of Science program is offered online and is part of the University of the Arctic’s Thematic Network in Arctic Engineering and Science. Ben has taken courses in Arctic Engineering and has supplemented his studies with Geotechnical courses. His research work comprises improving classification methods for frozen soils, an applicable topic around the North. The current method uses only visual methods; Ben’s work entails adding index testing similar to classification methods of unfrozen soils. Ben says that studying Arctic Engineering is challenging but very rewarding. He encourages other engineering students and engineers to join the field, since there is much research still to be conducted; research that helps overcome Arctic challenges and benefits the Northern society and nature.
