The Thematic Networks will work together in developing a first complete PhD Program under auspices of UArctic. The network consists of partners in all five Nordic countries (including Greenland) and in Alaska and Canada. These include UArctic member universities Aarhus, Akureyri, Alaska Anchorage, Alberta, Lapland, Manitoba, Oulu, Tromsø, Umeå and Abisko Scientific Research Station, Sweden and Stefansson Arctic Institute, Iceland. University of Oulu and its Thule Institute is leading the project. The project partners work also in several Arctic organizations and working groups (IASC; IASSA; AMAP, AHHEG; SDWG; CHRN; IUCH) and projects (ASI I & II, AHDRII, ArcRisk) and bring all their expertise into a program.
The work towards a joint PhD program was started in last August in a workshop held in Oulu and with this granted funding the project group will be able to have a second workshop in Nuuk in September during the NUNAMED conference. (NUNAMED WEBsite link : http://www.nunamed.org/)
