Stefan B. Sigurdsson (Rector, University of Akureyri) and Lars Kullerud, UArctic President presented UArctic to the Culture and Education committee of the Nordic Council on April 7 in Akureyri, Iceland. The presentation focussed on explaining importance of the North globally and the Nordic region's importance in the global North, given that most people living north of 55º are in the Nordic countries and NW Russia. This concentration provides opportunities as well as responsibilities to the Nordic countries.
The presentation included information on how UArctic is organized an operates, with details on our Thematic Networks, education, research and mobility activities. Highlights of these activities were presented, such as our Rectors' Forum, Circumpolar Studies, and the Thematic Networks in Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD), and Extractive Industries (including their PhD course).
