NIAS promotes multidisciplinary research and advances today’s society in historical, social, cultural, political, and economic contexts. During the past years, NIAS has made outstanding contributions by discovering new and innovative approaches to understanding various societal issues and has provided a platform to interact with leaders in science, technology, social sciences, and humanities from academia, industry, government, and voluntary organizations.
NIAS has introduced “Polar and Ocean Studies” as one of the new areas of study under the Global Politics program within the School of Conflict and Security Studies. The Program aims to pursue multidisciplinary research on the polar regions and oceans, looking at the following areas: climate change, environment, governance, conservation, blue economy, security infrastructure, ocean health, and ocean science. At the end of August 2024, NIAS and the Ministry of External Affairs in India jointly organized the first “annual Polar Dialogue” conference, bringing academia and public authorities together to inaugurate the Polar Studies Program. Prof. Hossain is expected to play a consultative and advisory role in the Program’s promotion in the international arena. More information about NIAS can be found here.
