Professor Arja Rautio, UArctic Emerita Chair in Arctic Health from University of Oulu, and Professor Jan Borm, UArctic Chair in Arctic Humanities from University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, were invited to give keynotes at the 2025 Conference of the PEOPLE network. The headline of this years conference is “Challenges and Opportunities in Environmental Sustainability under Climate Change” and is organised by Professor Bing Chen, UArctic Chair in Marine and Coastal Environmental Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland, in cooperation with the Canadian Association on Water Quality (CAWQ), in St John’s, Newfoundland, July 21-24, 2025.
Professor Rautio’s keynote is entitled “Sustainable Solutions for Community Health in the Arctic”. She has also been asked to participate in the conference’s special panel discussion chaired by Professor Gordon McBean (Western University, Canada). Professor Jan Borm’s keynote is entitled “The Territory as Source of First Nations’ Identities – Linking Nature, Culture and the Climate”. The conference’s Honorary Chair is Distinguished University Professor Howard Alper (University of Ottawa). It assembles over 160 participants from more than 10 countries who have gathered to discuss multi- and transdisciplinary perspectives on the conference theme.
